We headed north on I75 toward Warner-Robins. Our destination was the Robins Air Force Base and the Museum that is just on the edge of the Base. Admission was free and they had a ton various military aircraft and a few civilian models as well.
It started out quite foggy this morning but it soon cleared up.
B1 Bomber
A10 Warthog
F15 Eagle
F84
P51D
C-47 or as we know it from civilian air it's the DC-3
P-40
You don't see this everyday. A C-47 (DC-3) on floats.
DeHavilland Beaver
Huey
This Pavlov was huge!
Ardvark
Swept wing design
SR-71 Blackbird
Read the history of this aircraft. This exact aircraft on display holds two speed records that still stand. And I got to touch it!!
U-2C
Newer Mustang
Interesting to see the cutaways of radial engines. This was a nine-cylinder.......
.......this was an eighteen-cylinder.
B-29
Mockup of a nuclear bomb that this aircraft would carry.
Restoration area.
This hangar had a number of aircraft under restoration.
So interesting to read the history behind the exact aircraft that are on display here.
This Gulfstream II was donated by John Travolta to the museum.
KC-135 tanker. Unceremoniously pushed into the bush. I guess it didn't have the same prestige as a plane with guns or bombs.
B-52
It's hard to read but in order to void a surface to air missile the Captain of this aircraft actually flew inverted! Incredible.
They had a special model train display set up in one of the hangars. It was popular with the kids.....and we liked it too!
Thomas the Train
The detail was incredible.
Various scale engines.
What a great museum and exhibits. They had wonderful displays and explained the historical significance of the actual aircraft on display, not just the model. And admission was FREE! You can't beat free!
........and that was Our View From Here!
I love Aviation Museums. Thanks for sharing.

That is an interesting aviation Museum we toured quite a few years ago. You will love the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola FL even more fun.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to see the evolution of air craft over the years and the trains brought back memories of my dad's train set that he had in the basement. I never appreciated it then but looking back now, it was pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteAwesome visit! Love the train display, perfect for this time of year! :)
ReplyDeleteBill would enjoy that. I've seen enough aviation museums for a while, heh heh.
ReplyDeleteAnother one for our bucket list. It looks like a good one to visit.
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the Museum. I was really impressed with Hock's Flying abilities. We'll have to add that one to our List.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
That’s my kinda Museum!
