Headin' to the Carolina's

Wednesday, October 31
This was our last day in Virginia and it was chore day. Laundry, of course then lunch at a barbeque joint, fuel in the truck then back home to get the trailer ready for departure.

The Williamsburg RV Resort was a Thousand Trails park. With our Coast to Coast membership we stay here for $10/night.....plus resort fees and tax but still the total is about $17/night.

Some interesting characters that have semi-permanent accommodations. This was our neighbors golf cart.

The sites and roads were a bit tight. It's an older park.

The clubhouse and pool area.

Lots of beautiful oak trees.

Our trailer, the one with the ladder. The oak trees dumped tons of acorns on the roof. I had to sweep the slides off before we closed them.

Thursday, November 1
One more time on the roof to sweep off the acorns before we pulled in the slides. We headed out around 9:30. We stuck to the Interstates which were quite smooth except for bridge transitions.

The James River from the bridge.

Cotton fields still awaiting harvest.

As we got closer to Wilmington we noticed something unusual. We followed a number of vehicles pulling new boats. I assume it was because they were replacements for boats destroyed in Hurricane Florence.

Further evidence of the hurricane was trees broken and uprooted in the ditches.

Heading over a North Carolina swamp.

The new Interstate 140 that bypasses Willmington. Our GPS didn't know it existed. We just followed the Myrtle Beach road signs.

Another swamp.

Swinging bridge over the Little River, part of the Intercoastal Waterway.

Green slime outflowing from a volcano. One of the dozens of  mini-golf courses.

Friday, November 2
On our first full day in the Myrtle Beach area we wanted to see what the place was all about.

The beach area of Myrtle Beach. Lots of bars, shops, restaurants and entertainment. It was quiet today though.

Easy access to the beach.

Grassy sand dunes

The big wheel. One admission gets you four rotations of the wheel. It takes roughly 2 1/2 minutes per revolution. It was pretty hazy so we didn't bother.

Lots of folks looking for shells.

This little guy was looking for shells.....or maybe his lunch.

The sand bank was full of shells.

We walked up and down the beach for a while just taking it all in.

Must be a high crime area.

Restaurant and bar on the pier.

The Myrtle Beach area is known as the 'Grand Strand'. It has over sixty miles of beautiful white sand beaches, boardwalks, and more entertainment than you can possibly enjoy. A great tourist destination.

......and that was Our View From Here!
