This was the quiet day. We just hung out around the RV Park and got caught up on some chores. The black and grey tanks needed dumping, laundry was piled up, and the pool was just begging to be used. So one of us did laundry and one of us went to the pool. Not sayin' who did what, but I did carry the laundry baskets, and the pool is right next door to the laundry room. :-)

Now this was the busy day. The last time we were in this area was February 2018. At that time we went to the Riparian Reserve in Gilbert just southeast of Phoenix. It is a great birding area and just a nice place for a walk. It took about an hour to get there from the Park.

| Lots of duck waiting for a meal. |
 |
| Ring Necked Duck |
 |
| Lots of little bunnies hopping around. |
 |
| Probably a Costas Hummingbird, but it could be a Black-Chinned Hummingbird |
 |
| Lots of water birds. |
 |
| Snowy Egret in flight |
 |
| Blue Heron |
 |
| Pelican....and friends. |
 |
| Shy Green Heron |
 |
| A few Gambel's Quail around |
The highlight of the day was the Reddish Egret. The dark colored bill would suggest this is an immature Egret. It is rare to see this bird in Arizona. They are more common in Florida or even Texas. So we felt fortunate to see this one. Most of the folks we met in the Preserve today were talking about the Egret. It has become a popular showpiece of late.
After we wandered the Preserve for a while it was lunch time so we stopped at Culver's for a burger. It happened to be beside a Hobby Lobby so.....we had to stop in.....of course. An hour later we headed over for a 'quick' stop at Costco. My big purchase was a 5 TB hard drive for $89. The price of hard drives continues to drop.
Next stop was a bit out of the way. We heard that the best sausage around was at The Pork Shop over in San Tan Valley. Further south and east of Phoenix. We picked up an armful of various types and flavors of sausage. By the size of the crowd in the store it seems the store's reputation for good sausage has spread. We just had to try a couple of samples. All I'll say is you gotta try the Cherry and Whisky flavored sausage! Amazing!
We stopped at Fry's Grocery on the way home and finally pulled in to the RV Park about 7 PM. Long day, expensive day, but a fun day!
......and that was Our View From Here!
Always nice to get the chores out of the way. Long day but like you said, it sounded like you enjoyed it!! That's what counts.
ReplyDeleteThey have a Fry's about 10 minutes from Lost Dutchman. lol With a bar for men to sit and have a beverage while the wife goes shopping. :)
ReplyDeleteYou got some great bird pictures. Good thing we don't have a Costco in Yuma or hubby would be right down there buying another hard drive :-)
ReplyDeleteAlways nice to sneak a quiet day into the mix. That hour drive looks like it was worth it. Wonderful pictures of the Reserve. Sounds like a long but good day.
ReplyDeleteMmm sausage, cherry and whiskey flavour, interesting. Absolutely nothing wrong with a quiet day thrown in to recharge. I help with laundry in a similar way as you! I'll fold towels too sometimes lol.
ReplyDeleteNice to have quiet days too and the busy days are usually jam packed with fun and chores combined. :) Nice to be stocked up on pork sausage too!
ReplyDeleteGreat bird pictures!
I caught a glimpse of quails here up on a hill so that was a treat. :)
