November 14 (Tuesday)
The Cracker Barrel
restaurant has a pretty good reputation for large portions so we thought we
should confirm that by having one of their famous breakfasts. After thorough
research I can happily report the rumors are true! Sorry, no pictures. I ate it too fast.
Today we went to the
Museum of Northern Arizona. They have extensive collections of pottery, jewelry
and artwork from 1000 AD to present. Even a room of pre-historic dinosaur-era
artifacts. The website states a visit should take about an hour and a half, but
it took us nearly three hours. The displays are well done very informative. I
wouldn't say I'm and expert in Sinaguan and Homolovi pottery, or Hopi jewelry,
but certainly know more than I did!
Museum rules don't allow photography of most of the exhibits, so just a few today.
Outside the Museum.
Artist rendition of what Archaeologists say is a typical Sinagua village in the cliffs.
Beautiful collections of pottery (no shards here!)
Lovely fireplace and sitting room in the museum.
Inside garden area of the museum. The building is built as a square.
We did a bit of shopping, then home to barbecue. It gets quite chilly once the sun starts to go down, and by 6 PM it's dark so we do any outside cooking early. Chicken breasts tonight!
Ahhh. I remember Cracker Barrel. I had some sort of Combo breakfast platter. That many carbs at one sitting should not be legal. I felt bloated for days.
