A visit to Virginia Beach

Sunday, October 28
Today was the best day to head to the beach.......Virginia Beach that is. We left by about 9 AM expecting the traffic to be light. It was for the most part but we are learning that when you are in the highly populated Northeast there are never any quiet times to travel.

The Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. It takes you under the bay from Hampton to Norfolk.

Visitor Center statue.

Downtown Virginia Beach.

Law Enforcement memorial next to the beach.

Love the pounding surf.

Virginia Beach on a nice Sunday fall morning.

Lots of tag football being played on the beach.

King Neptune Statue

The boardwalk along the beach

The 'new' Cape Henry Lighthouse. Built in 1881 and still in use.

The original Cape Henry Lighthouse built in 1792. It is currently closed for renovation.

There are visible cracks in the walls. Definitely in need of restoration.

First landing cross.

The memorial for the naval battle between the French and British in 1781. The French won the battle and was key in winning the war of Independence.

The hero!

Old and new lighthouses on Cape Henry.

Lighthouse in the middle of Chesapeake Bay

Norfolk Naval Station.

Three or four aircraft carriers in port.

Entering the tunnel heading west on I64. Heading home.

An interesting day at the beach. It was a beautiful fall day to explore the Virginia Beach area. Lots to see around here but unfortunately we won't have time to get back here.

....and that was Our View From Here!

  2. WE were at Virginia Beach in 1985 when our kids were small and we did a cross country trip to Richmond, VA to visit Ken's gma. Remember loving the beach, sure there's tons more people there now! The traffic is terrible anywhere back that way! Loving your trip!!
