Heading to Palm Springs

Saturday, January 4
I took a nice easy hike around the campground this morning. My Achilles tendon is acting up a bit and after the longer hike at Borrego Springs my ankle was a bit sore. I suppose I walked about a mile or so, but kept it slow and enjoyed the scenery.

Overlook of the duck pond in the park

Concrete and stone water runway to handle flood water from the pond.

Lots of ducks live in the pond.

Beautiful setting to relax and contemplate life.

One more look at the ridiculous roads in the campground!

Time to clean up the trailer in prep for our departure on Sunday. We also enjoyed some time in the sun just 'chillin'. You need to do that occasionally.

Sunday, January 5
We managed to find our way out of the campground with only a few branch scratches from the low-hanging trees. As much as we liked the park I can't see coming back here again unless it is with a much smaller rig.

We could have taken a shortcut through the mountains to Palm Springs, but for the sake of about thirty miles we took the I 15 and 215, then through the Morena Valley on Hwy 60 to I 10 and into Palm Springs from the north. I assumed traffic would be lighter on Sunday morning but in this part of the country I don't think there is a quiet time.

Long decent down the Scripps Poway Parkway. It connects Hwy 67 to I 15.

Sunday traffic on I 15 heading north.

Lots of vineyards and orchards along the Interstate.

LA smog on the horizon

We spotted some skydivers.

We spotted the Goodyear Blimp heading east toward Palm Springs.

Heading through the construction on Hwy 60 from Moreno toward I 10 and Palm Springs. Very narrow especially on the curves.

Some big Cats here. D10's.

Lineup of earth movers. They are building a new road through the mountains. They need to do something to relieve the traffic pressure.

Lots of wind generators in the hills surrounding Palm Springs.

Some lighter traffic in the urban area.

Turns out we're under the flight path to the airport.

We arrived at Cathedral Palms RV Park about mid afternoon. We got set up and enjoyed the remainder of the afternoon outside. This park is on the final approach path for the Palm Springs airport so the planes fly a bit low over us. I think the first plane I saw was a 737 from Westjet (Canadian airline). We also saw a lot of private and/or corporate jets coming in. No shortage of money around here. We also read there is some sort of film festival on so a lot of A-listers are in town.

Nice sunset to end our day here in Cathedral City.

....and that was Our View From Here!

  1. Nice pictures of your walk around the RV Park to bad it was so tight.
Glad to read you arrived at your next destination safely. Enjoyed your pictures of the drive.

  2. Yes your pictures of the park are lovely. As you said, too bad that the roads are so narrow otherwise I would put that park on our "possible list".

  3. It must have cost that RV park a lot more to curb their narrow roads. Near Palm Springs we like to stay at Indian Waters RV Resort and Cottages in Indio. They have accepted Passport America in the past even though they don’t advertise it.
    Safe travels!

  4. I'd get out of Southern Ca as fast as I could! There are just way too many people and everything costs more. Your RV park did look pretty but obviously geared for much smaller rigs. Too bad. Your hike the day before did sound like you would be feeling it today, I know I would...LOL..
