I took a walk around the RV park this morning. It turns out the airport isn't the only noise around the park. Located directly behind us is a large equipment rental business. They start to work at 6 AM. Ask me how I know!
Man-lifts poking their heads above the hedge. They started moving equipment around at 6 AM.
Very busy equipment rental business.
Cute little Airstream they use for advertising. A very expensive billboard!
The office and Clubhouse. An old KOA park that the A-frame structure gives away.
Washrooms, laundry and garbage.
Not a bad laundry. $1.75/wash and $1.50/dry. Only four washers and four dryers and of course there was one of each out of order.
This is Cathedral Palms RV Resort. Even with RPI it is still expensive, but everything is expensive in Southern California.
We stopped for breakfast and a few groceries before heading further into the valley to the communities of Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert. The entire Palm Springs area is really one large metro. You can't tell where one ends and the next starts unless you happen to spot a sign. Our first stop was the Palm Desert Visitor center which , as it turns out, was in the City Hall and next to it was a beautiful park. We spent a couple of hours there.
Many roads are named after famous entertainers. Bob had a home here in Palm Springs.
Entrance to the Palm Desert Visitor Center.
Hummingbird in the flowers outside the Visitor Center.
A Woodpecker too.
Art at the entrance.
Beautiful duck pond with.......
......ducks of course.
Statue of a fisherman.
One ugly bird.
One pretty bird (Air Canada flight inbound for Palm Springs)
This sculpture was called 'The Dreamer'.
Mount San Jacinta
Ram sculpture
They had a beautiful rose garden in the park.
Next stop was a drive into the hills on Hwy 74 to a viewpoint about seven miles from town. Incredible views of most of the Coachella Valley.
Lots of curves and switchbacks. Trailers over 30 feet should not be on this road.
The city of Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley.
The Salton Sea in the distance
Back into town we headed back on Hwy 111 toward our park. We made it past the Plastic Surgery Clinics, the Ferrari, Rolls Royce, and Jaguar dealerships and then back to reality at the RV park. Just in time to do the laundry! Oh the lives of the rich and famous!!
Ferrari
Rolls Royce
Range Rover
Jaguar
Back to reality!
....and that was Our View From Here!
You are too funny! Good thing you got brought back down to reality with having to do laundry hahaha. Beautiful setting that park has, you wouldn't realize how many people are there in SoCal. You will love Joshua Tree!
ReplyDeleteWe have never really spent any time in Palm Springs, looks like there is a lot to see. Good to see some water, we have not seen that in a while!
ReplyDeleteDave, there is a nice Air Museum in Palm Springs, it is on the east side of the airport, easy to find.
ReplyDeleteJoshua Tree is fabulous. You guys will really enjoy it. Love the sculptures you managed to find. A great Chinese Food Buffet is the Emperor Buffet. They have tons of choices and we have always found the food to be excellent. 69600 CA-111, Rancho Mirage, CA
ReplyDeleteLove the street names and sculptures. Looks very pretty there.
ReplyDeleteThat valley! Wow!
Thanks for the tour today, Dave.
There was way more snow on the San Jacinta mountains when we drove home from Palm Desert on New Years day. Have fun at Joshua Tree, I know you will enjoy it and I'm looking forward to reading which trails you venture down.
