I can't believe I'm complaining that it is getting too hot here to be comfortable especially when I see the frigid weather in Alberta. The sun is getting intensely hot by about 9 AM and by noon any outside activity is restricted to hoisting a glass of something cool. Or of course find somewhere indoors with air conditioning but then why be in the desert if you want to be inside?
Thursday was laundry and pool day. The pool happens to be located beside the laundry room so you can multi-task. Cheryl did laundry......I swam. I thought it was a fair deal. Well, actually I did laundry too but not the type you should expect. We drove the truck up to the laundry area as we had a couple of baskets and it is too far to carry them on a hot day. In my haste to dip into the pool I neglected to take the keys and my wallet out of my swim trunks. Yep, I got in the pool with said items securely in the pockets of my trunks. It was at least twenty minutes before I realized the error. By that time my money was duly laundered, along with all other important papers and cards I carry and my key fob for the truck! All I could do was put them up on the table in the sun in hopes the key fob wouldn't short out. Luckily it didn't and everything works. The money smells nice and clean too! Of course I took a little ribbing at the happy hour gathering.

Friday was our usual day over in Laughlin..........well the Pioneer Casino to be exact. It was our last Friday in the area so we thought we should be, could be, maybe be, lucky. Well, long story short we were not. But we did enjoy a few hours of play, some great drinks in the bar that overlooks the River, and had a nice meal in their excellent restaurant. We have been through most of the Casinos in Laughlin and we kept coming back to the Pioneer. It the smallest, likely the oldest, and certainly not the glitz and shine of some of the others but we seemed at home here. All the staff were great too. We highly recommend it. Now the Casino has been sold and there is a lot of uncertainty about its future. Hopefully the new owners will treat the staff well and not change too much of the homey feel. We'll see.
Later Friday night the water went off in the park. This park has it's own well and a pump that fills a huge water storage tank to service the park. Apparently the well and pump are only a year old but they have had some issue over the year. It's not the first time the park has lost water. The City of Bullhead City can turn on a tap to service park in cases where the pump and well are out of service. You would think this is a simple process to just open the valve. This being Good Friday, at night, on a long weekend the emergency City Water department was not sensing any sort of urgency to restore our water. That and surely the fact that the City is not likely to care much to help a non-customer in his time of need. Anyway, it was nearly 4 PM Saturday before we had water restored. Of course in anticipation of leaving I had just recently drained the fresh water holding tank on our trailer, so we were using drinking water to flush the toilet. :-(
Saturday was spent getting the trailer ready to go. Mostly though we were trying to stay cool. Our thermometer showed 34 C or 93 F. The wind that was ever-present all month suddenly decided to quit, so the day was just a bit too warm for us. We did enjoy a long happy hour with the folks we had met in the park. Many are from Alberta and we are all looking at weather forecasts and trying to figure out when to make a run for the border. The way it looks now it will be about ten more days before the weather breaks. So we'll make plans around that.
Sunday we'll head to Las Vegas for four days and then make a plan for further down the road. Likely spend some time in Utah. Just too hot down here! :-)
........and that was Our View From Here!
Wish we had some of the heat here, seeing snow is not fun.
ReplyDeleteNever fails when you drain you fresh water the campground water is out, we make sure that we always have some water in our tanks, just for that reason. Safe travels.
Yes, what George said! Send some heat this way to Ohio.
ReplyDeletewe had an empty tank when we were at Eagle's Landing but when they shut the water off, there was the opportunity to give us a heads up so we quickly put 25 gallons in our tank. Not good if you don't have notice.
Travel safe guys and enjoy L.V. and Utah.
I sure hope the weather improves for your trip home. We are flying out to Edmonton on Wednesday for a week to visit our sons and after checking the forecasted temperatures our suitcase will be packed with all our winter clothes ... which of course isn't a lot since we are rarely in winter temperatures! It snowed in Kelowna yesterday and we still aren't hitting double digits during the day :-( Enjoy the warmth while you can.
ReplyDeleteYep, time to head north for some cooler temps, getting way too hot down there! Safe travels and we hope your luck turns while in the Vegas casinos!
ReplyDeleteI almost feel sorry for you in that heat. ;)
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the water. I always carry at least 4 or 5 single gallon jugs filled from the tap (not for drinking) for those emergencies when we don't have access to water. They are great for all kinds of things and I refresh every once in while or add a drop of bleach to each jug. They do for things like washing self, dishes, flushing, cleaning up, etc.
Safe travels!!!
Have a safe drive back to Canader eh! Nice problem to have ... too warm. Not really lol I cannot take the heat either. Anything over 85 without wind is too warm for this kid. Be prepared for the cold though, spring is being very stubborn and not arriving early this year.
ReplyDeleteNot exciting to be without water. Like the others we try to keep at least a gallon for emergencies but we have had to use drinking water, also, for the flush...:)
ReplyDeleteWe would agree, above 90 degrees is a little warm but considering all the snow we are seeing back in the UP we are enjoying the warmth here...though it has not been as hot as you are experiencing.
Safe travels as you start your slow trek north.
Had a chuckle about your swimming fopaux. Lucky your key fob still worked.
ReplyDeleteI echo your comments about the weather but it is still cold at home and our planned route to Lethbridge is currently blocked by storms. We are hunkering down in Vegas for a few days and will then check the forecast again.
Wow..those temps! The swimming and the wallet story funny! Glad everything worked out ok. Water being shut off for that length of time is ridiculous, but glad you got through it all ok. We like Pioneer too, for pretty much the same reasons. Seems that you enjoyed your stay in that area. Travel safe!
